Small Family Farms
The Farmer’s Hen is a sister brand of Handsome Brook Farms, which began in Franklin, New York, with five hens and a belief: when animals and land are treated with care, good things follow. Today, we partner with the country’s largest network of small, organic pasture-raised and free-range egg farms, operating in 11 states from the Northeast to as far west as Oklahoma. One thing remains the same -- our commitment to “Acting Handsomely” in all things, where small farms and big hearts mean a brighter future.
Our farmers use organic and regenerative practices to improve the long-term resilience of the land and we connect these practices in a farmer network to increase the scale of our impact, making individual farms part of something much larger. From our coops to consumers’ cartons, we deliver the most sustainable eggs possible.
We believe “Acting Handsomely” means working hard to ensure personal, public, and planetary health are prioritized at every turn. We treat our farmers, animals, and employees with dignity, and the land and resources with respect, and as a result consumers receive clean, responsibly raised eggs.

Since the beginning of our partnership with Rethink Food and One Love Community Fridge, we’ve donated over a quarter million eggs to New York City residents facing food insecurity.

Each year in celebration of National Egg Day, we hold an employee match campaign where we match their donations to relevant non-profit. One of the favorite philanthropies is consistently local animal shelters near where our farms are located.
